First Impressions

You never have the opportunity to make a second “first impression” so when someone asks you “what do you do”…there it is.

The single, most important moment in attracting new clients–your first 30 seconds, commonly known as “the Elevator Speech” or as we refer to it in GCN, your Audio Business Card (ABC).

While it’s about planting seeds and building business relationships, how do you know it’s working as well as it could? By what criteria do you use to evaluate it’s effectiveness? Like many entrepreneurs and small business owners it is usually based on what happens next. The reactive approach.

What about taking a more proactive approach? Answer these two simple questions;

  • Have you ever recorded and listened to your ABC?
  • Have you ever had anyone other than yourself review your ABC objectively?

If not, why would you expect someone else to listen, much less be intrigued or interested?

Promoting that intrigue or sparking that interest is what you are after initially. You network to build your business right? Most times, even if the product’s reputation precedes you, without intrigue and interest-building, your prospect is going to be mildly interested at best. And it still begs the question – why YOU? If they can get it somewhere else, what is going to make them come to you?

So how do you throw that 1-2 zippy punch that makes them come to attention?

Record yourself. Walk away from it for a short period, at least 15 minutes, and then listen to it. You may hear some things to change immediately. You may want to write it down. Then record it again.

However, the proof is in the pudding, as they say, so now you need to use it.

Consider starting with participating in one of our Virtual Meetings, currently free to those that choose to take advantage of the networking opportunity. Everyone who attends has the opportunity to record his or her ABC, listen to it and then, if they choose, re-record until they are satisfied. Then that ABC is presented to market your business during the online networking meeting for everyone to hear.

On the other hand, what if you want to improve it? You hear the quivering in your voice. Your words sound too similar to others in your profession. You can’t seem to find the zing that makes you stand out from the crowd. What do you do?

You get an expert to help you formulate it…to smooth, to excite, to express your expertise–to help you put YOUR passion into it!

Consider ramping it up by taking advantage of the Global Connections Networking Membership. We provide members up to two hours free coaching on their Audio Business Card – content and delivery per quarter so that you know you’re getting the maximum results possible.

  • The team at GCN reviews the content from a sales and marketing perspective so your words will attract the referrals you desire.
  • Once the content has a solid base, we help make sure that the delivery is smooth and confident.

Finally, and here’s the best part, once it is perfected, you don’t even have to be present to deliver it!

When you are ready AND if you choose, GCN posts your ABC on your GCN web page and provides YOU the audio file to put it on your own (separate) website if you prefer. Then, when someone has a referral to send you, they have the opportunity to hear you first so that when you do connect – it is a more qualified lead. They have heard your voice, your energy, your pitch and they liked what they heard.

Check it out. Join our next virtual meeting, or just jump to the chase and join Global Connections Networking and make your Audio Business Card a powerful marketing tool that will draw clients and new business to YOU!

Free Attendance to ALL Networking Meetings (even Virtual)

Would you refer business to someone you never met in person? I used to think that way– no, I couldn’t do that.

Then I realized how many people I actually HAVE done business with that I never have met in person…and that I’ve been quite happy with their services and have even referred business to them.

In today’s world, we must be able to connect wherever we are—not just over coffee or a meal with local networking groups—but in a much bigger way. Across the country or across the globe…

– My Virtual Assistant in San Francisco
– Business Coaches in Arizona, Colorado, Maine
– Mastermind colleagues in Australia and England.

Networking is not always about paying for a meal with the same folks. In fact, many hidden expenses seem to “show up” for many networking meetings: Meals, spin-off group costs, additional seminar costs, special events costs.

Today with the phone, email, virtual masterminds, teleseminar, webinars, etc., many ways exist of generating referrals. Global Connections Networking represents the next evolution of that process. We bring the most effective elements of networking together and create an entirely new approach to help you grow your business.

And rather than having members pay for each networking event we host, GCN offers its members free attendance to ALL networking meetings…

…Audio Business Card Reviews
…and interviews
…and teleseminars
…and mastermind groups
…and webinars

Let’s face it, that’s a lot of bang for your buck. The next time your looking at networking – take a good look at your ROI and make an educated decision.

Networking – An Investment in Your Business

Networking is about building relationships. Networking is part of the long-term foundation that lends stability to business. It comes from a sincere interest in the other person’s welfare and a desire to be of service. I have seen hundreds of business’ come and go over the last 5 years – looking for a magic key to financial success. Too often, it’s about making a fast buck. Pure and simple.

I hear people say that if they go to a networking meeting and do not get a client or make a sale – it was not worth it. The cost was too high.

A networking meeting is an investment. It is an investment in the future of your business. It is part of the structure – part of your marketing, just like a good business plan, the skills to deliver and the product that supports your client’s needs.

The next time you go to a networking meeting consider putting it in the context of JF Kennedy’s words and ask not what those individuals there can do for you but what you can do for them.

Let me know what happens.

Networking – A New Spin On Tradition

As an entrepreneur or small business owner, you rely on referrals to build your business. While you receive a number of referrals directly from your clients and customers – the majority come from networking.

Global Connections Networking puts a slightly different spin on an age-old tradition.

You see, usually traditional networking groups are either places where you go to meet and mix in a room of warm bodies, bumping from one person to another quite randomly, OR, a meeting room quite parliamentary, having maybe 15 minutes to actually meet other people one-on-one. We have upped the ante to bring over 45 minutes of networking time during the live meetings as well as multiple ways to network during the virtual meetings.

The next big question is after you get back to the office, whom do you call? What is the conversation? What are the steps for following up with the meeting attendees?

There are many steps to networking and managing contacts, but having a clearly defined process can certainly help.

Here is a new opportunity to get a blueprint of how to generate clients, from beginning networking skill building through Advanced Leads Marketing within one organization.

Check out the web site for all of the different possibilities. Virtual Meeting are the first Thursday of the month so live or online there is always an opportunity to network.

Welcome 2008

2007 was a wonderful year for Global Connections Networking, of course … we were “born” :) and 2008 is starting off GREAT!

We had our first meeting on January 3 bringing together busy professionals from coast to coast (LA to DC) and we will keep expanding. Business that last are built on quality products or services as well as referrals. These referrals come from strong relationships; and that is where GCN appears. Whether it’s through a live meetings with other professional like yourself, on-line meetings (when you realize that someone across the world is able to send you a referral if they know about you) OR through interviews that lead to a pre-screened contact, Global Connections Networking is there to make it happen.

Coming up this month are the live meetings in Agoura Hills and El Segundo both happening on January 17th. Our next online meeting is February 7th – for registration or details go to http://www.globalconnectionsnetworking.com/network_events.htm.

The teleseminar, on Project Planning and Goal Setting will be on January 21st, 9-10 AM. To sign up for the teleseminar go to http://www.globalconnectionsnetworking.com/teleseminar.htm.

Until next time – make it a prosperous day!

Sincerely,
Kira Wagner

Monday Minutes 12/10/2007

December 6th we achieved another milestone with our first online virtual networking meeting for Global Connections Networking. A number of individuals listened in via the simulcast allowing participants to network around the globe. Still others took advantage of the phone connection. The benefit of all attendees sharing contact information as well as their ideal referral really attracted some new businesses.

Since we experienced some obstacles for those choosing to deliver their Audio Business Card (or elevator speech), we have found a way to make it work better for everyone. It seems that in today’s technology being able to mute on so many levels prevented some folks from speaking their business.

We are getting some wonderful positive feedback so we look forward to seeing just how far this will grow. For the present, attendance at the online meeting is free so visit http://www.globalconnectionsnetworking.com/virtual_meeting.htm to sign-up. On the same page, you can listen to the recording of the meeting and hear some great information about backing up your computer as well as your Microsoft Outlook®.

This week is our last Mastermind meeting for 2007. The Mastermind is open to members only (not sure if you’re a member or not – see membership details here http://www.globalconnectionsnetworking.com/membership.htm) and treated with complete confidentiality. It is like having your own board of advisors.

Update on the physical meetings in Southern California:

  • We have changed the meeting dates for the Agoura Hills Networking meeting to the Third Thursday of the month and the meeting will resume January 17, 2008 at 9:00 AM with Aaron Danchik of Synchronized Solutions at the helm.
  • For those of you with an eye for detail you will also notice that the El Segundo meeting is the same day. We will resume our meeting there at 6:00 PM headed up by Suzy Prudden SuzyPrudden.com.
  • The North Hills Networking meeting will resume FEBRUARY 7, 2008 at 6:00 PM led by Karen Weil.

On a personal note – having the meetings headed up by these wonderful individuals allows me to be supporting our members at large – really working on getting the interviews of the existing members wrapped up is one of the top priorities. If you have not completed yours – I will be in touch :)

Our connections with Facebook and our discussion forum / membership is growing there too. If you would like to discuss information, ideas or pose questions check out the group at http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=18895264392.

For our MySpace folks a group has been newly created at http://groups.myspace.com/globalconnectionsnetworking.

As always make it a GREAT week and please stay warm. For those of our readers in the areas affected by the ice storms you are in our thoughts.
